Heightened Security Measures in Kashmir

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government has shut down 48 out of 87 tourist spots to bolster security and prevent further incidents. Government officials attribute the attack to Pakistan-based militants, which has intensified cross-border tensions and resulted in the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.[1][2]

Airlines such as Air India and IndiGo have been rerouting flights around Pakistan’s closed airspace, adding up to four hours to routes to Europe and North America and incurring higher fuel costs. Passengers have faced delays and additional transit stops as carriers adapt to the new restrictions on Indian carriers.[3][4]

Opposition leaders have called for a special session of Parliament to address the security situation. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have publicly urged Prime Minister Modi to convene lawmakers for an urgent debate on national security measures.[5]

Pakistan has called for a "neutral" investigation into the Pahalgam killings and offered cooperation, even as both nations exchange gunfire along the Line of Control. The Defence Minister of Pakistan has warned of an imminent Indian military incursion, signaling the gravity of the current standoff.[6][7]

In diplomatic fallout, India announced a series of measures to downgrade ties, including lodging formal protests, reducing diplomatic staff, and temporarily halting visa services for Pakistani nationals.[8]

Economic Developments: Manufacturing and Digital Security

Electronics Manufacturing Shift

Indian electronics manufacturers are capitalizing on U.S. tariffs by attracting global tech giants like Apple and HP to relocate production to India, supported by the government's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. Apple plans to move its entire U.S.-bound iPhone production to India by the end of 2026, while HP aims to double its manufacturing capacity in the country. Suppliers such as Dixon Technologies, PG Electroplast, and Kaynes Technologies have reported robust order backlogs.[9][10][11]

RBI Mandates '.bank.in' Domain

To enhance cybersecurity and curb rising digital fraud, the Reserve Bank of India has instructed all banks to migrate their net banking platforms to the exclusive '.bank.in' domain by October 31, 2025. According to RBI data, digital payment fraud amounted to nearly ₹21,367 crore in the first half of FY2024, prompting the central bank's operationalization of the domain in April 2025. This initiative, managed by the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) as the exclusive registrar, is expected to significantly reduce phishing incidents.[12][13]

Sports Update: India's Sudirman Cup Campaign

India's badminton team faced a 1-4 defeat to Denmark in their opening match at the Sudirman Cup in Xiamen, China. Despite a hard-fought victory in the women's doubles by Tanisha Crasto and Shruti Mishra, the overall performance highlighted the team's challenges against top-ranked opponents.[14][15]

Next, India will face former champions Indonesia in their Group D match on April 29, 2025, aiming to secure their first win at the Finals at Fenghuang Gymnasium in Xiamen. A strong performance against Indonesia will be crucial for their quarter-final aspirations.[16]

Meanwhile, group rivals China and South Korea opened their campaigns with decisive victories, underscoring the competitive nature of Group D and the challenges India faces to advance.[17]
